Bovada Poker Review

Bovada Poker is a fair pick if you already bet sports or play casino games at Bovada and want poker on the same balance, with anonymous tables and a busy Sunday schedule. The welcome bonus is smaller than it looks, $500 at most, and it only unlocks as you earn Rewards Points over 30 days. Check the state list before anything else: the account terms shut out 19 states plus DC, far more than the four the poker page mentions.

This review covers the poker room. The casino and sportsbook only come up where the shared account changes something for poker players.

Who can play

The poker page says players in Delaware, Maryland, Nevada and New Jersey can't play. That's only part of the story. Section 2.3 of the Terms of Service, last updated January 3, 2024, bars Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Michigan, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Connecticut, West Virginia, Ohio, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Arizona, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island. Log in from one of them and Bovada can revoke access and void your balance.

You must be 18. You're allowed one account, and the terms ban VPNs or proxies that hide where you are.

How the $500 welcome bonus works

Enter code BPWB500, make your first deposit, and Bovada matches it 100% up to $500. Bovada's general bonus terms set a $20 minimum unless an offer says otherwise. Nothing is paid up front. The bonus unlocks in $5 pieces for every 150 Rewards Points you earn at poker. Points are credited when you leave a cash table or finish a tournament, and each $5 is issued the day after you reach it.

To unlock all $500 you need 15,000 Rewards Points inside 30 days of that first deposit. Bovada lists poker at 15 points per $1 but never says whether that dollar is rake, fees or money wagered, so there's no honest way to say how much play that takes. Jackpot Sit & Gos earn only 1.5 points per $1, so they barely move the bonus.

Unlocked money carries no rollover. The shared account matters here: Bovada says your poker play won't count toward meeting rollover if another bonus is already active on your account.

No deposit offers for poker

Bovada's promotions page doesn't list a no deposit bonus. The tournament pages mention freerolls with no buy-in but list no schedule or prizes. Refer-a-Friend has a poker drip of up to $200, and both players need a $20 deposit.

Games, Zone Poker and anonymous tables

Cash games and tournaments run Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo, in no-limit, pot-limit and fixed-limit. You can sit at four regular cash tables and two Zone tables at once, or up to 15 tournament tables.

Zone Poker is the fast-fold game. Fold and you're moved to a new table with new cards. You get 15 seconds to act, half the normal clock, and Bovada says that means two to three times the hands per hour.

Tables are anonymous, so opponents can't see who you are or how you've played before. Section 6.3 of the terms bans external player assistance programs and treats collecting data on other players beyond what you'd see yourself as unfair. HUDs aren't named, but a tracking HUD does exactly that. Collusion gets a permanent ban.

Tournaments and Jackpot Sit & Gos

Bovada advertises $2 million in weekly guarantees, though its own schedule page doesn't add up to that. The Sunday Main is $200,000 guaranteed at 4 PM ET for $162, with qualifiers from $1 during the week, and a $100,000 High Roller follows at 6 PM ET for $325. The annual series are the Black Diamond Poker Open in early spring and the Golden Spade Poker Open in early fall.

Jackpot Sit & Gos are three-handed hyper turbos where a reel sets the prize pool once the third player registers. Buy-ins run from $0.50 to $100, and the top pool at $100 is $250,000. Bovada states the house holds 7%.

Software and mobile

The download client needs Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.15 on a Mac. You need the download to unlock the welcome bonus. There's no phone app. You play in the browser and can save a shortcut to your home screen, and Bovada's help page says Jackpot Sit & Gos are currently the only tournaments on mobile.

Rake

Rake is 5%, $0.01 for every $0.20 in the pot. Tables set up for heads-up play cap at $1 at every stake. No-limit and pot-limit up to $0.10/$0.25 cap at $0.50 two-handed, $1 with three or four and $2 with five or more. Above that, up to $10/$20, the cap climbs from $1 heads-up to $4 six-handed. Fixed limit caps run from $0.10 to $3 depending on stakes and players.

Bovada charges nothing on crypto, voucher or player transfer withdrawals. Watch the card fee: after the first free card deposit, a $100 top-up can cost $15.90 or more. Card depositors also have to file a card verification form before cashing out.

Bovada Poker or Ignition?

From the inside they look very alike. The rake caps match, both run the Black Diamond series, and both advertise a $200,000 Sunday main. Bovada's poker page says its players get the PaiWangLuo Network's player pool. Where the two rooms really differ is in the account terms. Ignition's poker bonus goes higher, up to $1,000 by card or $1,500 with crypto, and its terms list five restricted states against Bovada's 19 plus DC. Bovada adds check and bank wire payouts and puts a full sportsbook on the same balance.

Should you sign up?

If you live in a state that isn't on Bovada's list and you already use the sportsbook, Bovada Poker gives you anonymous tables, Zone Poker and a solid Sunday on the money you already have there. The $500 bonus is a slow drip tied to points Bovada doesn't fully define, so deposit what you'll actually play in a month rather than chasing the cap. Your first card deposit is free, and crypto avoids the fee on later top-ups. If poker is all you want, compare Ignition's bigger bonus before you choose.
